Elko Co, NV – Darryl Mayhew Killed in Chain Reaction Accident on US-93 Near Wells

Elko Co, NV (October 01, 2021) – Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle accident that took place on Monday, September 27th in northeast Nevada.

The deceased, identified as 70-year-old Darryl Mayhew, a resident of Troy, IL. was involved in a chain reaction collision in a construction zone on US-93 between Jackpot and Wells at about 7:40 a.m.

A source from inside the department said that a Penske moving truck traveling northbound on US-93 approached traffic stopped by a flagger in a construction zone. The Penske operator failed to stop and crashed into a Chrysler Pacifica van. The impact pushed the Chrysler into the Freightliner dump truck in front of it, and then onto a dirt shoulder.

The Penske truck twisted and overturned, striking the dump truck, which then collided with the rear-end of a Ford F-150 which, in turn, hit the back of a Dodge van.

Mayhew, the driver of the Chrysler, died at the scene. His passenger was med flighted to a hospital in Utah in critical condition.

The occupants of the dump truck and the pick-up sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The NHP is investigating impairment and inattention by the Penske driver as possible causes of the crash.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Darryl Mayhew, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Multi-Vehicle Accident in Elko County

Elko Co, NV - Darryl Mayhew Killed in Chain Reaction Accident on US-93 Near Wells

A driver who is found to be liable for a car accident can be held accountable for the damages they cause. According to Nevada law, fault for an accident is usually determined by proving negligence. Nevada follows comparative negligence laws.

The association between these laws and your car accident is especially important when multiple vehicles are involved. This is because multi-vehicle accidents often have more than one at-fault driver. According to comparative fault rules, any person whose negligent actions contributed to the accident will be held financially responsible for all damages in direct proportion to their total percentage of fault.

As an injured accident victim, you are entitled to full economic recovery for the cost of your damages. If you were injured in a multi-car accident, you most likely need this compensation to keep from being buried under massive medical bills. Regrettably, insurance carriers seldom agree to provide victims with the compensation they are actually entitled to. Insurance adjusters typically try to devalue victim’s claims and bully them into accepting an unfair settlement offer. You can get the restitution you deserve, but you will have to fight for it.

Our firm is familiar with the insurance company’s schemes and underhanded tactics and can help you get the maximum amount of financial compensation for your claim.
