Las Vegas, NV - Boy Hit & Injured in Cortney Junior High Accident on Hacienda Ave at Jones Blvd

Las Vegas, NV – Boy Hit & Injured in Cortney Junior High Accident on Hacienda Ave at Jones Blvd

Las Vegas, NV (October 7, 2021) – Authorities say that a driver hit and injured a 12-year-old boy on Thursday morning, October 7, as he was walking to school.

Police closed Hacienda Avenue in both directions between Jones Boulevard and Lindell Road following the accident. According to Las Vegas police, medics took the boy to an area hospital just before 7:00 a.m. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His family later added that the accident broke both of his legs.

The mother of the boy said that cars frequently speed through the school zone, and drivers often miss the yellow crossing signs nearby.

Clark County is responsible for placing crossing guards near the school where the collision happened. A spokesperson for the district said that middle schools do not get crossing guards but elementary schools do.

Las Vegas police said the driver remained on the scene and showed no signs of impairment. The investigation is ongoing, however, and further details were not provided.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family. We hope for his full recovery.

Las Vegas Pedestrian Accidents

Las Vegas, NV - Boy Hit & Injured in Cortney Junior High Accident on Hacienda Ave at Jones Blvd

According to Nevada Department of Transportation officials, motor vehicle accidents claimed the lives of more than 60 pedestrians throughout the Las Vegas area in the last year alone. Authorities say this marked an increase of almost 20% compared to the previous year.

Even worse, Las Vegas’s pedestrian fatality rate has been rising steadily during the past decade, despite the fact that traffic deaths across the state of Nevada are down overall.

Per this information released by authorities, these pedestrian accidents are an unfortunately common fact of life in Nevada, particularly on the busy streets of Las Vegas. When it comes to fatal accidents and pedestrian incidents across the state, victims and families are particularly vulnerable in the aftermath.

After a pedestrian accident, those affected often cope with financial difficulties, long-term physical issues, and emotional trauma. When victims succumb to their injuries, family members may be left in an unbelievably tough position. Sadly, families must often endure expensive medical and funeral expenses in the aftermath.

Thankfully, if you’ve sustained injuries or lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, you may have legal recourse. If you have suffered injuries in a pedestrian accident, please contact a Las Vegas accident attorney.
