Sparks, NV (December 14, 2021) – Police have released new information in a deadly auto-pedestrian wreck that occurred on Saturday, December 4.
Sparks Police investigators say they discovered the vehicle they believed was involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a Reno woman, but the vehicle and its owner have been now cleared in the investigation.
The crash occurred at G Street and El Rancho Drive and resulted in the death of 57-year-old Christy Valdez. A man was also hit in the accident and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers with the Sparks Police Department say that a driver traveling westbound on G Street through the intersection of El Rancho Drive hit Valdez and the man in the crosswalk.
Investigators added that the vehicle involved in the crash likely has significant front-end damage.
Anyone with information on the driver or their vehicle is asked to call the SPD or Secret Witness. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Christy Valdez. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
Nevada Pedestrian Accident Fatalities
According to Nevada Department of Transportation officials, motor vehicle accidents claimed the lives of more than 60 pedestrians throughout the Las Vegas area in the last year alone. Authorities say this marked an increase of almost 20% compared to the previous year.
Even worse, Las Vegas’s pedestrian fatality rate has been rising steadily during the past decade, despite the fact that traffic deaths across the state of Nevada are down overall.
Per this information released by authorities, these pedestrian accidents are an unfortunately common fact of life in Nevada, particularly on the busy streets of Las Vegas. When it comes to fatal accidents and pedestrian incidents across the state, victims and families are particularly vulnerable in the aftermath.
After a pedestrian accident, those affected often cope with financial difficulties, long-term physical issues, and emotional trauma. When victims succumb to their injuries, family members may be left in an unbelievably tough position. Sadly, families must often endure expensive medical and funeral expenses in the aftermath.
Thankfully, if you’ve sustained injuries or lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, you may have legal recourse. If you have suffered injuries in a pedestrian accident, please contact a Nevada car accident attorney.
