Reno, NV (September 28, 2021) – Troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol say an accident between an SUV and a motorcycle occurred on Saturday evening, September 25, nearly killing one man.
Deputies arrived at the scene within minutes, and EMS personnel performed life-saving measures to a critically injured motorcyclist. According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), the incident happened around 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Lemmon Drive and Patrician Way.
The WCSO said deputies applied multiple tourniquets to the motorcycle rider’s lower leg before medical crews arrived. Medics then took the victim to the hospital by ambulance, though they have not released details on his current condition.
Initial reports indicate that the SUV was driving southwest and attempting to turn left onto Patrician Way when it collided with the biker, who was traveling northeast on Lemmon Drive.
Police say speed may have contributed to the wreck. However, they say they have not yet issued citations for those involved.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Las Vegas-Area Motorcycle Accidents
Officials with the U.S. Department of Transportation say motorcycle accidents are responsible for nearly 15% of all traffic fatalities nationwide. Over the past several years, motorcycle wrecks have steadily increased.
In fact, these accidents have more than doubled in the last 25 years. Moreover, data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that one in seven fatalities on American roadways occurred on a motorcycle. And despite a general decline in Nevada motor vehicle accidents, traffic deaths as a result of motorcycle collisions are at their highest level in more than a decade.
Unfortunately, tragic consequences are more likely to befall victims after a motorcycle accident. Motorcyclists are at much higher risk for serious injury or death because they lack the protection a passenger vehicle offers other drivers.
For example, crash victims may sustain TBIs, catastrophic organ damage, and more. Sadly, this can mean costly medical bills and even job loss or death for those injured.
Thankfully, those affected by these motorcycle wrecks can contact a Nevada motorcycle crash lawyer for help. In some cases, a lawyer well-versed in Nevada state law can help victims or their families seek their full, fair settlement from a personal injury or a wrongful death lawsuit.
