Las Vegas, NV – DUI Driver Injures Victims in Three Crashes on I-15 at Sahara Ave & Spring Mtn Rd

Las Vegas, NV (November 8, 2021) – Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a serious accident that backed up southbound traffic past the Spaghetti Bowl, toward Lake Mead Boulevard, early Monday morning, November 8.

Lt. Jeff Dean with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said a Toyota SUV was traveling northbound on I-15 when it collided with another vehicle near Spring Mountain Road around 5:00 a.m.

The Toyota’s driver then fled the scene and got into a second crash, this time with an LVMPD vehicle near Sahara Avenue.

Dean said that the Toyota driver left that scene as well and wrecked a third time into a median barrier, also near Sahara, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Police added that the victims involved suffered only minor injuries, though the extent of the injuries is unknown. Dean also said that the driver of the Toyota was suspected to be impaired.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details have not been provided.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

DUI Accidents in Nevada

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nevada ranked in the top 15 states for fatal DUI accidents. Based on the number of DUI accidents that occur between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., or brunch hours, the Silver State takes the number 12 spot.

In fact, these deadly DUI wrecks hit an all-time high in Nevada in 2018 alone. Authorities reported more than 330 alcohol-related traffic deaths on state roads and highways, marking a 6% increase over the previous year.

Sadly, victims and their families pay the price for other drivers’ negligent actions. In fact, victims typically face serious financial roadblocks, long-term physical issues, and major emotional trauma.

Oftentimes, when victims succumb to their injuries, their grieving family members must cope with expensive medical and funerary costs, exacerbating the tragic circumstances they already face.
