Las Vegas, NV (November 23, 2021) – Authorities with the Clark County Coroner’s Office have identified a man who died after a fatal Las Vegas moped-vehicle crash that occurred on Tuesday evening, November 16.
Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department responded at 6:30 p.m. to the intersection of East Fremont Street and East Oakey Boulevard. They initially received a report of an injury crash involving a passenger vehicle and a moped in that area, according to Metro Lt. David Gordon. Despite life-saving measures attempted by EMS personnel at the scene, the man riding on the moped died before he could be transported to a hospital.
He has now been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office as 68-year-old Herbert James Redcloud.
The investigation remains active at this time, and further details have not been provided. Police added that citations or charges may be pending for the driver of the car involved.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Herbert James Redcloud.
Deadly Bicycle & Moped Accidents in Nevada
The number of deaths caused by bicycle accidents increased nearly 40% in the last decade, according to the National Safety Council. Though the number of preventable crash injuries has decreased overall, they still remain high across the country and statewide in Nevada.
Moreover, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data note that one in five fatalities on American roadways occurred on a motorcycle or bicycle. And despite a general decline in Nevada vehicle accidents, traffic deaths are all too common.
Unfortunately, tragic consequences are more likely to befall victims of a bicycle accident. Bicyclists and moped riders, like pedestrians, are at much higher risk for serious injury or death. Because they lack the protection of a passenger vehicle, they’re more vulnerable to other motorists on the road. Crash victims may sustain TBIs, catastrophic organ damage, and more. Sadly, this can mean costly medical bills and job loss, or even fatal consequences for those injured.
Thankfully, those affected by these accidents can contact a Nevada injury lawyer for help. In some cases, a lawyer well-versed in Nevada state law can help victims and their families. Those affected may be able to seek a full, fair settlement from a personal injury or a wrongful death lawsuit.
