Las Vegas, NV – UPDATE: Debbie & Patrick Bass Die After Sahara Ave DUI Wreck at Rainbow Blvd

Las Vegas, NV (December 29, 2021) – A second person has died after a fatal DUI crash at Sahara Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard occurred on December 21, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Per reports from authorities, 64-year-old Patrick Bass died on Wednesday, December 29, more than a week after the accident that claimed the life of 65-year-old Debbie Bass. Bass was driving a 2018 Hyundai Tucson that collided with a 2008 Buick Lucerne around 1:30 a.m.

Police said the Buick’s driver ran a red light at the intersection and slammed into the side of Bass’ Hyundai, which had a green light, causing it to roll over several times.

The driver of the Buick, 43-year-old Tara Russell, faces five charges, including DUI and reckless driving. Those charges will likely be upgraded in the wake of Patrick Bass’s death. Records show she is currently in custody, awaiting a January hearing, with bail set at $250,000.

All victims were taken to University Medical Center after the accident, and Debbie Bass died of her injuries at the hospital shortly after transport.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of Debbie Bass and Patrick Bass.

Nevada Accident Fatalities Caused By DUI

Las Vegas, NV - UPDATE: Debbie & Patrick Bass Die After Sahara Ave DUI Wreck at Rainbow Blvd

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nevada ranked in the top 15 states for fatal DUI accidents. Based on the number of DUI accidents that occur between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., or brunch hours, the Silver State takes the number 12 spot.

In fact, these deadly DUI wrecks hit an all-time high in Nevada in 2018 alone. Authorities reported more than 330 alcohol-related traffic deaths on state roads and highways, marking a 6% increase over the previous year.

Sadly, victims and their families pay the price for other drivers’ negligent actions. In fact, victims typically face serious financial roadblocks, long-term physical issues, and major emotional trauma.

Oftentimes, when victims succumb to their injuries, their grieving family members must cope with expensive medical and funerary costs, exacerbating the tragic circumstances they already face.
