Las Vegas, NV (November 30, 2021) – Three people died and several others suffered injuries in a crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 95, just south of Beatty, on Sunday, November 28.
Around 11:30 a.m., Nevada State Police received a call about an accident at Nye County mile marker 27, close to Death Valley Junction Road.
State police were already attempting to locate a silver Volvo that had been reported as driving recklessly, per a report from Trooper Ashlee Wellman.
Preliminary details from Wellman indicate that a southbound truck that was towing a camper saw the Volvo cross into its travel path, causing the driver to pull over to avoid a collision. The Volvo’s driver then struck the left side of the camper truck. Both adult occupants did not suffer injuries, Wellman said.
Behind the camper, a UMC Yukon had also pulled over to avoid the Volvo. After hitting the camper, the Volvo continued going north and side-swiped the GMC. Two adults and two juveniles in the GMC were also unhurt, Wellman added.
The Volvo then crashed head-on with a Chrysler minivan. Five occupants were inside the van at the time.
An adult male and two children, one boy and one girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, identified only as an adult female, was airlifted to UMC Trauma. Another child, a boy, was taken to the hospital.
The Volvo then struck an additional Ford camper after crashing with the Chrysler minivan. Two adult occupants in the Ford sustained moderate and minor injuries, Wellman said.
Nevada troopers took the driver of the Volvo into custody on suspicion of DUI. He was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries and will be taken to Pahrump jail pending his medical evaluation, Wellman said.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities expect to release more information in the coming weeks.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Deadly DUI Accidents in Nevada
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nevada ranked in the top 15 states for fatal DUI accidents. Furthermore, the Silver State takes the number 12 spot when it comes to the frequency of these DUI wrecks countrywide.
In fact, these deadly DUI wrecks hit an all-time high in Nevada in 2018 alone. Authorities reported more than 330 alcohol-related traffic deaths on state roads and highways, marking a 6% increase over the previous year.
Sadly, victims and their families pay the price for other drivers’ negligent actions. In fact, victims typically face serious financial roadblocks, long-term physical issues, and major emotional trauma.
Oftentimes, when victims succumb to their injuries, their grieving family members must cope with expensive medical and funerary costs, exacerbating the tragic circumstances they already face.
